Around The World Hijab (Style?): Iraq

I've been putting off doing this post for a quite a while now because searching for photos to do with Iraqis is quite, um, traumatic, shall we say.. Especially when it comes to the photos graphically depicting how some of the 'hero' soldiers treat Iraqi women (and men..). Before I go off on a looong tangent in which I'll get people telling me that not all soldiers are the same and that I'm making generalized sweeping statements about the good Americans, I'll press on..

First, I kinda like this photo. The women are wearing traditional Iraqi overhead abayas on the right and the two on the left are wearing galabiyas:

Hmm, no doubt this next cliche photo was put together but one of the invading countries.. it makes it out as though women have been liberated and can suddenly vote. Reality check: Iraqi women were given the right to vote in 1980 - no thanks to any foreign troops that is.

Around The World Hijab Style: Algeria

By the request of Ellen Mann today's instalment of around the world hijab style is Algeria and I've found some really cute photos:

I'm sure you all recognise her, Al Jazeera news reporter Khadija Ben Genna is Algerian and I love all the different smart outfits she wears with her hijabs, here's one:

Yemeni Hijab Style

The next country I've explored the hijab style of is Yemen. Bordering both Saudi and Oman, I guessed the style would be a cross between the two countries and it kind of is:

Brightly coloured hijab, so pretty :D

Like in Saudi, a lot of women in Yemen wear the niqab, I think this version is nicer than black though:

Yemenis seem to have a hat fetish:

I love this next one, the hijab and hat combo is so graceful, especially with that bright pink scarf:

Omani Hijab Style

My next country on 'Around The World: Hijab Style' is Oman, the first Arabic country I'm doing yay :D Now their style is pretty diverse ranging from clothing similar to that of the traditional Pakistani dress to the glamorous black abaya. I'm sure a lot of Omani hijabis wear modern clothing but I didn't really come across any pics of that style so mainly, there are the abayas and traditional style in the post.

First off, some young Omani women wearing lovely, embellished black abayas. My fave is the one on they left, I love those silky, shiny abayas and I like her hijab style too ^-^

This next Omani woman would be right on trend if she were here in that pretty paisley number. Her loose hijab style would be especially useful in the summer:

The traditional Omani niqab, is roughly this shape and is usually hard as opposed to other Arab countries where it's made of layers of gauzy black cloth.

Like Pakistani style, Omanis wear brightly coloured, embellished outfits. I love this next one!

I came across this Polyvore outfit, by ....nida.... and I thought it looked a bit like the above outfit so I'll put it in so you can pinch her style if you like:

Hijab Style from New Zealand

I was asked to do a post on Zealand hijab style a while back by Celeritas, the reason it's taken so long is because there aren't that many pictures of hijabis from New Zealand out there. Anyway, I managed to find a few:
