Weird Hijab Look..!

I came across this style show when I was flicking through the Arabic channels the other day and saw the craziest Hijab tutorial. I recorded the last bits of it showing the horrendous product of a good ten minutes of scarf wrapping: what I can only describe as the multi wrap style with two shower loofahs hanging off the side..

Whilst browsing the net for my next post, which was going to be reviewing the best sites to buy Abayas and Jilbabs online, I came across the site Masoomah and found the most amazing tweed (yes, tweed) Jilbab which I, naturally, had to have. I don't wear Abayas/Jilbabs normally but they are great when going to the mosque or if your going somewhere highly populated with, ahem, Arabs.. Moving on, here it is, I think it should come in 2 or 3 weeks:

I love those sleeves! It was a very purse friendly £31 too :D What do you reckon, a good buy or not (as my mother thinks..)?

Simple Summer Style: Maxi Skirts

The maxi skirt is a hijabi wardrobe staple, especially in the summer. Here's how you could work the look in the evening.. just add a scarf:

A Take On The Egyptian Hijab

Somebody a while back asked me to do a tutorial on the infamous Egyptian wrap. I'm not hot on it because it doesn't cover the neck and ears fully even with a polo neck. So I have adapted the look a bit so that it fulfills the requirements of hijab but still involves, well, a lot of wrapping.. Hope you like. Sorry the photos aren't great, I took them on my webcam:

Here's the finished look:

Tutorial:

Put one scarf on your head with one end longer than the other as per usual..

Tie the scarf in a knot at one side of your neck..

Put the second scarf over the top with the long part on the same side as the short part of the first scarf and vice versa. Tie in the same way on the opposite side of the neck..

..so you get something that looks like this..

Next, take the first scarf and wrap it back over the second..

..all the way around. You can pin to keep it in place..

Now take the second scarf and wrap it the same way you did the first..

..to get this..

Finally, take the first scarf like so..

Fold it back and pin it in place..

Voila! You should get something that looks like this:

*TIPS*

- Use thin but not netted or really see through scarves together

- Don't do more that two layers, it's overkill.

- Try out different colours but keep it simple. It would be too much, for example, if you used patterned scarves.

Anyway, I thought I'd ask your opinions of these outfits. They look kind of like an Egyptian designer went crazy in Primark. I like certain bits of some of them, but on the whole I'm not hot on them, especially not all the belting.

What do you reckon? Would you actually wear any of these? :S

Ahmina's Wedding Look Request

You could replace the cardigan with a sequined one to jazz this look up (maybe not a black maxi either..!)

Styling Your Hijab To Suit Your Face Shape - Part 2

I did a more extensive post on hijab styles for the three most common face shapes a while ago (here) but since then I have had a few requests to suggest different styles for round and also heart shaped faces. I thought I would do another post, as a continuation of the last, for both of these shapes as they are pretty similar.

Last time, I mentioned that if you have a round face you should avoid tight hijab styles like this:

The model already has a roundish face, this style just makes her look like a football - a bald football.

I also suggested that Turkish hijab styles were the best for round faces as they make them appear longer and thinner if worn correctly, ie. covering the sides of the cheeks but leaving the chin and forehead free (the 1st picture illustrates the importance of the forehead when it comes to finding the right style for your face shape - not sure those two have got it right though..)

One girl who commented (and no doubt many others) does not feel comfortable in the Turkish style hijab for one reason or another, but she wants something to complement her circular face. I would suggest you try the Mona hijab, this is tight underneath - a nightmare on its own - but comes attached to a lovely sheer shayla that you can loosely drape across the sides of the cheeks to elongate the face:

You can bring the 'shayla' as forward or back as you like; if you notice with the model below, had she brought it forward to sit across part of her cheeks, her face would have appeared longer. If she had taken it further back on the head, to reveal her cheeks, her face would have appeared rounder:

You can also use this concept to create the same style with scarves that you already have in your wardrobe:
