Smart Hijab Tip #1: Colour

I have decided that this blog is in need of a section dedicated to smart/work hijab outfit ideas and tips.

After spending about a month in a hospital and coming across a lot of professional hijabis, I realised that a fair few of them (I feel like a bitch writing this..) could do with *slightly* improving their work look.

Obviously I'm not claiming to know everything about smart dressing, we all know that only a Turk could ever reasonably claim such a thing (just look at Hijab Revival and Hijabi and the City if you don't believe me - EDIT - In case any of you don't understand English, I am implying in this sentence that those two ladies have amazing smart dress senses, like many Turks that I have seen).

So anyway, one thing I noticed that a lot of hijabis do is use far too many colours in their outfit to ever be able to make it look smart and professional. I personally think that the key is to keep it simple and use different shades of a colour as opposed to putting lots of colours together. I would say stick to a maximum of 3 colours.

I really like the colour use in two outfits below:

If you are stuck for something to wear to work then I would recommend pairing a top with a scarf of the same colour but either much darker or much lighter than the top. Here's an idea:

Smart Hijab Style

Hope this helps :)

Only a Turk could write that? That is extremely racist and rude, exactly what Islam says NOT to be! I hope for your sake that you have told Sisters Seyma and Edibe this because you have always spoken nicely about them. This is very two-faced of you! Seyma and Edibe are wonderful people and you call them know-it-alls. Wow.....And now you probably wont post this comment....huhhh

I really like the brown coat in the second photo example you gave, do you know where it can be purchased or what company makes it?

qatheworld: I actually can't remember but I'll have a look in my history on my laptop and try to find the source (on my phone ATM lol) and I'll put it under the photo. Really don't know why I forgot to do that! Sorry!

Asalamu Alaykom,

Peace. Too bad that these comments have gotten off the track. If we are striving for Allah then we do that in our every action---even if we are not agreeing with someone.

Actually, I'm going to add a thought to the comments which differs from the others. It doesn't mean that I'm right and you're wrong. It just means that I see a different side of dressing in hijab.

I don't like the styles. Or rather, I like the styles but I don't agree that they are dressing in hijab. Hijab isn't just the scarf but the whole outfit. By showing such body-hugging jackets and skirts, the goal of hijab (modesty) is not met.

I see a lot of tight, form-fitted clothing on this site. That's a choice. I'm not saying that it isn't a choice; it is. You are free to wear as you please.

It's a little different to project it to a wider audience because then you are promoting your view. For everyone who follows you into something good, you get good deeds. For everyone who follows you into somehting bad, you get a bad deed. What is good or bad? That's up to Allah.

I'm only suggesting that we Muslimahs shouldn't take at face value that clothing made for Muslimahs is actually modest or hijab. We have to be careful consumers because our actions are to be judged at the end of our lives. We want to be proud---not so much by how pretty our outfits were but by how beautiful our soul is.

I hope that your hospital stay resulted in a good outcome inshahallah. I pray that those who helped you are rewarded both in this life and the next.

Yosra: We are judged by our intentions and in my opinion the styles here are fine and modest.

Thanks about the hospital thing by the way, I was there doing a project for university, I wasn't an actual patient :)
